President Obama gave a speech today outlining why he should be given a second term. He inherited an economy falling off a cliff and a trillion deficit. He's made proposals for generating the next generation of jobs - versus outsourcing them - and has invested in the education and next generation technologies that are vital to drive our future economic success. Has it been enough - and what is the plan offered by Gov. Romney in comparison?
I have analyzed these plans for the American people in the final chapter of "Better Times Ahead: April Fool?" a true life global adventure in technology, layoffs and re-invention.
Why does my opinion matter? It
is based on mere decades of global
experience, starting with the Fortune 500 and then as an American
entrepreneur striking out globally on my own after a layoff in the
80's. I've touched the elephant all over the world. That does give a person a better perspective than those who have never gone anywhere and think (no, know!) that they have the entire picture. I first went to Norway in 2011 after reading everything about it - and having already been in over 40 countries. Yet I found I didn't know anything about Norway -- until I had been there some time and talked to people. Mother Earth is a big beast. So if a Congress rep has never been there, how would they know reality from fiction? Right?
The KEY QUESTION for Americans: WHICH PARTY'S economic plans are best for America at this critical juncture?
Let's clear out the smoke and mirrors and ads bought by billionaires interested in themselves instead of the next generation of technology America needs to stay in leadership in an inescapable global economy. If we were in the horse and buggy days the buggy makers would be flooding the airwaves with ads why the CARE was a dangerous thing! Serious! The elite HATE giving up for the next better technology...
Our future is intertwined with global economics. WHO has the most advanced technology. Best education? (It used to be us!) If our kids are only trained to be lawyers or burger flippers, we are in deep dodo.
Practical, potential SOLUTIONS based on a lifetime of global work and study are all laid bare in the final chapter of "Better Times Ahead: April Fool?"
It's entitled "Agenda for American Greatness."
The title comes from a sign I saw once at 2 a.m. while hurling through the black streets of Bombay on a business trip to India for the fortune 500.
I added the question mark because our future success or failure depends on the decision Americans make for their Congress reps and President in November 2012.
Will America lead or shoot itself in the
foot in 2012?
Countries like China are challenging us in space while our own Congress refuses to pass normal bipartisan bills to fund repairs to our nations roads and bridges, like the 70-year old bridges on I-10 at Lake Charles, Louisiana. it shakes so much they have cut it down to one lane - and lightbulbs keep breaking because of the road vibration.
A Governor waited until the Interstate bridge in Minnesota collapsed during a traffic jam, and too many died as a result of that negligence. A collapse of the seven-decade old bridge in Lake Charles would not only kill people it would cut the primary U.S. east-west SuperHighway! Imagine how that would hurt America's economy! It is short sighted and national suicide. Who is against this investment - President Obama or the Republican Congress and its Presidential candidate?
America's fortunes are not isolated in the global economy. Europe's austerity craze is causing surging unemployment. That will likely lead to the loss of Mr. Sarkozky's election, the conservative President of France. The English conservative party also just lost hundreds of seats in recent elections to the Labour party. People feel pinched by the austerity cuts in England. Austerity is a lesson American learned under FDR in 1937, one that many Americans do not know about today. It's explained in a nutshell in "Agenda for American Greatness."
For your childrens' future, and yours, check out the TRUE FACTS on where America stands -- and what we have to do to win the future in a global 21st century space age. We have to really up our game folks.
