Wisconsin Sikh Shooting - Sikhs are NOT Muslims
Above: There are a couple photos I took in INDIA many years ago when I was there on business. Notice the "snake charmer" wearing a turban. In India, a major religious group are the SIKHS. They wear Turbans. Memo to Americans: Sikhs are NOT Muslims -but many Americans don't seem to know the difference, with tragic consequences.
Reports from the Wisconsin shooting at the Sikh temple indicate the shooter was a white man, who was bald. The temple had been receiving threats since 9/11, which was an act by extremist Muslims -- meaning that morons who can't tell Muslim from Sikhs were assuming that they are the same. They are NOT.
Even if had been a Muslim Mosque, the shooting would have been wrong. It's even worse when people show their ignorance and target a religious group that has never been a threat to Americans. In fact, targeting ANY religious group is WRONG.
I pin this latest senseless mass murder on the hate speakers, many of whom are on radio, who influence the unstable and ignorant among us to step over the line and commit violence. Yes, that means people like you Rush Limbaugh, and those who try to copy him.
That includes those who brand a Christian President as "Muslim" as a form of "dog whistle" of acceptable bigotry. Instead of using the "N word" they use term "Muslim" as a substitute. It's the same.
I'm disgusted. It's time for Americans to educate themselves on the many religions that form a part of our diverse culture. We are a nation of Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians (which includes Mormons) and non-believers.
Our forefathers saw how religious freedom suffered when there was only one "state religion." That's why the First Amendment states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
It's time to stop hating people just because of their color or religion. It's time to stop the senseless hate messaging filling our airwaves.
